I am proud to care about the environment along the shores of Lake Ontario. My exposure National Parks and to the wonders of the world has provided me with a deep love of nature and desire to protect it. We live in a world where convenience is placed before the environment, and disposable goods are mass produced which poison the earth and endanger all of its inhabitants. I intend to create change to protect the environment through design, by designing with my passion for the earth at the core of what I make.  As one example, I performed beach cleanups and collected more than 5000 pieces of trash and then used the trash to make something new--a table that incorporated the waste I found on the beach, a thin layer of concrete with the plastic set into the top, and pieces of driftwood. I hope to carry this commitment to the environment into my career as a designer. Design to me is the combination of art and engineering, with the purpose of exploring the relationship not just between people and the objects they use, but also the relationship between the earth and the people living there. I know that there is so much about function, form, and beauty that we can learn from nature if we care enough to look. I am proud to care about the environment and plan to interweave this passion into every aspect of my life.
