As a fifteen year old, Maryalice became a board of director for the Breakthrough Project, a nonprofit organization aiming to “create communities free of bigotry, racism, prejudice, and intolerance by celebrating diversity through communication, education, and response to acts of intolerance.” In an effort to reduce bullying, Maryalice founded the Annual Educational Essay and Art Competition to prompt her peers to consider the lasting effects of bullying. Over 4,800 elementary school students participate in the Essay Competition each year, and over 10,000 high school students participate in the Art Competition. Maryalice implemented Swap Your Seat days during lunch, and she works to celebrate diversity during annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations. She is a member of the Interact Club and Speech and Debate Team. Maryalice is the founder and president of the Girl Up Club. She received the Girl Scout Gold Award, and she is a peer tutor.
