Marissa used her title as Miss Proctor 2014-2015 as a platform to bridge the gap between the Hispanic and Caucasian cultures in her community. Starting with the court, which consisted of 3 Caucasian princesses, Marissa introduced her culture by offering authentic, Mexican dishes in her home. She explained that although many Hispanic families earn a living from labor-intensive work, “not all Latinos speak the same, look the same, or work in the same industry.” Marissa hopes to incite an understanding and appreciation of all cultures within her local community. Marissa is the senior class president.
