Jenessa has been an active member of Eco Club for the past 3 years. Last year, she and her club members recycled over 8,000 plastic water bottles, and they are currently on track to reach a goal of recycling 10,000 water by the end of the school year. The profit made from the club’s efforts are spent on funding future projects such as the school’s new organic garden. Jenessa surveyed the teachers’ habits and overall opinion of recycling. She found that on average, teachers dispose of 90 pieces of paper a week, equating to 250,000 pieces of paper per year. Jenessa’s efforts have solidified the support of her administration and a local recycling company. Jenessa will launch the paper recycling program on Earth Day of 2015, and she has structured it so that it will be sustainable for years after she has graduated.
