My interest in computer science and neuroscience stems from my experiences as a low-income, first-generation daughter of Mexican immigrants from a low-resource state (Nevada). My name is Isabella Pedroza, and I grew up with the reality of oppression in our community and systemic failures within the tech industry. As someone who has had the opportunity to be free and in a position of power, my job in life is to protect and empower others. I want to ensure that our society continues progressing so that no one faces discriminatory barriers within health or tech. To do so, I plan to pursue a career in computer science while merging the incredible science of neuroscience to help underrepresented communities and the advancements of technology within itself. I hope to one day create better lives for people and bring together communities.
