Benjamin is president of the Eastside Energy Corps (EEC), a citywide youth movement centered around energy conservation. Benjamin is leading EEC as it prepares to compete for the Georgetown University Energy Prize. However, Benjamin explains the importance of promoting energy conservation in local high schools and middle schools as well. Benjamin conducted research about various incentives for youth. He found that cash prizes are the greatest motivators for high school students, while middle school students are motivated by pizza and cookies parties. Benjamin also found that setting up informational booths and offering smart energy pledges have increased the number of environmentally-conscious community members. Benjamin was the keynote speaker at the 9th Annual Northwest Industrial Energy Efficiency Summit, and he has interned for New Energy Technology and the City of Bellevue Planning & Community Development/Environmental Stewardship Initiative. Benjamin is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Robotics Club.
