Rocio Mondragon Reyes, Santa Rosa, CA
Roseland University Prep
Instead of overlooking issues that seem to plague her community generationally, Rocio brought these problems to the forefront. Rocio founded her school’s student newspaper, “Knight Times,” which is also translated to Spanish for non-bilingual parents. Rocio created an outlet for students to voice their opinion, and she also had her op-ed regarding the fatal shooting of a local 13-year-old boy published in Santa Rosa’s “The Press Democrat.” In a lowly-funded school with a stark language barrier, Rocio strives to ensure that education is a human right, accessible to all students. In addition to serving as editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, Rocio has also interned with various law firms for the past 4 years.
