Jamie approached her school administrators to inquire about establishing her own student group to help facilitate a positive educational environment. This student group became known as The Breakaway Leadership Team, and it included student athletes, members of student leadership organizations, performing arts students, students with disabilities, and anyone looking to be a part of a group. BLT met biweekly to discuss creating a more inclusive school environment while ensuring each student maintains his or her individuality. 1,700 students signed an anti-bullying oath, and the amount of behavior referrals and bullying incidents have decreased by 60%. Jamie served as the keynote speaker at the Association of Middle Level Education Conference, and she is an intern for the Special Olympics Arizona Project Unify.
